Hello everyone,

I know it's been a while since I last updated my blog but as the saying goes 'Better late than never' ;)

Today, I've come across a really fascinating and intriguing video at youtube titled Boston Dynamics Big Dog'
Honestly, at first that robo dog really did freak me out especially with buzzing sound but technologically speaking, that is another innovation invention in the field of AI :)

Stair Climbing Robot Prototype

An iRobot engineer recently completed this stair climbing robot as part of his Masters thesis. While it is strictly a one-of-kind robot and not destined to be any sort of iRobot product, it's still a cool piece of work. This video was posted to the iRobot YouTube channel but they didn't provide either the engineer's name or a link to the thesis with all the fun technical info on the robot.

Robotism

These days, robots are really useful in many aspects of life and are becoming of great practical use. They're now used widely in hospital aiding doctors in various procedures ranging from complicated operations such as heart surgery to diagnosing various diseases. They're even used by miners to help point out and detect mineral locations.

Now even in Japan, they've got robots as receptionist at hotels. Robots can now take on intricate jobs such as exploring a volcano or even simple ones like sweeping homes. Astonishing! Isn't it?

In the future we might see robots on the rise against us just like in. Perhaps, they haven't reached a level yet where they stand as a potential threat to society. A slightly different fear is that if there would be a continues rise of robots and they have the potential and ability to do more and more complex jobs than they already can, then they may replace us in the workplace, which in turn would leave humans without jobs & thus increase unemployment. This has long ago, already started to happen with factory workers where more efficient robotic machines are now seen and dominating in areas such as the car manufacturing industry. Due to all these, there can be a decline in the employment market for semi or low skilled employment.

It's not that robots can always be a menace but they have been quite useful especially in the medical stream. Bionic arms have been widely popular especially by granting wishes come true of people who lost their arms or legs. You probably would have heard of Robosurgeon or Robodoctor. 'Robodoctor' who have instruments attached to their arms and perform even the most delicate operations are beneficial since the use of robot invasive surgery reduces patient recovery time as the incisions are very small. It also allows the surgeons to have better control over the surgical instruments. Some of us might have heard about the famous surgical robot "Da Vinci system" which provides accurate result even over repetitive tasks and do complex calculations along with precise measurements, a whole lot faster than humans.
Robots can even collect and analyse information, performed by robots such as "Dragon Eye" which is a small aircraft equipped with a camera that enables it to analyse the enemy position.

Now talking about the future, are robots really here to stay? And yet another question being, is it con or pro to the society?

Well, we all already live in a society that is continously developing under the wing and revolution of IT and are perhaps becoming more and more dependant on machines with all the benefits they provide to us as well as their costs. Robots can turn out and is already an aid to our society by performing many complicated tasks that humans aren't capable of. It's only a matter of time, when we see how fast is the face of this world revolutionising along with the growth of robots!
